When Wintrust took over the lease on the iconic Mural Building along the Kennedy Expressway in 2013, the goal was to feature local non-profits, community groups and events that are improving the greater Chicago community. There’s been artwork inspired by The Great Chicago Fire Hydrants project, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana, Chicagoland Habitat for Humanity, The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, Bernie’s Book Bank and SOS Children’s Villages Illinois, among others. These are organizations and projects that step up and lend a hand to our friends and neighbors in need and Wintrust is proud to recognize each one.

The current artwork is a tribute to Navy Pier’s 100th anniversary and the Centennial Vision project. The mural depicts some of the Pier’s most iconic elements, comparing and contrasting them throughout time. The artwork highlights the history of Navy Pier and the surrounding city including the city’s buildings and transportation, people, and the items that are most recognizably part of Navy Pier.

The Centennial Vision reimagines Navy Pier as it approaches its 2016 anniversary. The goal is to expand the Navy Pier audience and enrich the visitor’s experience. The project includes more dramatic public spaces, the expansion of year-round programming and new entertainment options for the Pier.

Be sure to check out the mural artwork along the Kennedy Expressway and then head over to see all the new and exciting things happening at Navy Pier!
